Project Description
The Citizen Hotel, located in downtown Sacramento, is a 14 story boutique hotel that was originally constructed in the 1926 as the Cal Western Life office building. The hotel was designed as step back into the past with custom touches throughout. The project occupied 135,000 square feet with 197 guest rooms, a full kitchen to service the hotel, and a two-story restaurant containing a show kitchen.
This Design-Build project was completed under a tight schedule from concept to permit, spanning approximately 6 months. The construction phase was scheduled to take 20 months but was reduced to 15 months.
The project included a 2,500 amp bus duct that feed electrical closets on each floor. The electrical closets were arranged to allow a minimal amount of space be occupied, allowing the existing conditions of the building be capitalized on. The project utilized a 30kVA lighting inverter to power all of the emergency lights in the building in lieu of an emergency generator. To provide adequate service to the building SEI coordinated with SMUD to install a new SMUD vault in the hotel’s basement, minimizing traffic congestion while installing the new feeders.
